민주인권포스터 프로젝트는 민주화운동기념사업회(Korea Democracy Foundation)에서 주최하는 민주인권기념관 개관 프로젝트입니다. 국가폭력, 반민주주의, 인권침해의 이슈를 돌아보고 민주주의와 인권을 이야기하는 시각 언어를 포스터로 기록하고자 합니다.
민주주의의 어원은 그리스어 인민(Demos)과 지배(Kratos)가 만나 이뤄진 단어로, 민중에게 국가의 권력이 있음을 의미합니다. 다만 근현대 한국사에서 민중의 권력은 독재 정권 아래에서 강력한 국가폭력으로 수많은 희생자가 발생합니다.
일상의실천은 지난날 한국 사회의 민주주의를 민중(民)과 권력(主)라는 두 개의 포스터로 나눠 이야기합니다. 국가폭력을 상징하는 남영동 건물의 좁은 창문과 국가폭력에 저항하는 민중의 의지는 균열된 벽으로 표현합니다.

The Democracy and Human Rights Poster Project is a project organized by the Korea Democracy Foundation to open the Democracy and Human Rights Memorial. It aims to reflect on the issues of state violence, anti-democracy, and human rights abuses and to record the visual language of democracy and human rights through posters.
The etymology of democracy is a combination of the Greek words ‘people (Demos)’ and ‘domination (Kratos)’, meaning that the people have the power of the state. However, in modern Korean history, the power of the people has been used by the dictatorship, and state violence has caused countless victims.
Everyday Practice talks about the democracy of Korean society in the past with two posters: populace (民) and authority (主). The narrow windows of the Namyeongdong building, symbolizing state violence and the will of the people to resist state violence, are represented by the cracked wall.
