Minho Kwon’s work deals with the memory and representation of Korean industrialisation. He visualises the complexities and inner contradictions of Korean society’s industrialisation through multi-layered drawing collages. His work visualises the multi-layered aspects of Korean industrialisation in large-scale drawing installations by superimposing images that symbolise the pride of Korean industrialisation – Pohang Steel and Danginri Power Plant, cars and hens, oil tankers and piglets – with the underbelly of Korean society revealed by the process of industrialisation. Kwon’s work provides an opportunity for reflection on modern growthism, asking us to consider how we lived through that era.

Based on his illustrations, which recreate the meeting of the modern and premodern in dramatic compositions, we endeavoured to support the exhibition’s themes through typography in a combination of English and Chinese characters.
