지난 2014년 4월 16일 세월호참사가 발생한 당시 참사 피해자들은 피해 당사자의 권리를 보장받지 못한 채 2차 피해에 노출돼 극심한 트라우마에 시달려야 했습니다. 4.16재단에서 출간한 ‘피해자 권리 매뉴얼’은 재난 피해자의 개념을 정의하고 그 권리를 제시하면서, 피해자 당사자와 그 가족, 구조나 지원에 참여한 사람들, 참사를 목격한 사람들 모두 피해자로서 권리가 있음을 알리고, 더 나아가 사회가 재난을 기억한다는 것의 의미를 재조명하고 있습니다.
일상의실천은 ‘피해자 권리 매뉴얼’을 포켓북 사이즈로 제작하여, 참사 현장에서 기민한 쓰임을 가진 책으로 제작하기 위해 노력했습니다. 또한 ‘참사’, ‘피해자’라는 단어가 가진 무거운 느낌을 탈피하고, 일반적인 ‘매뉴얼’이 가진 무뚝뚝한 인상을 밝은 톤의 컬러와 의외성을 가진 레터링 디자인을 통해 개선하고자 했습니다.

At the time of the Ferry Sewol disaster on April 16, 2014, victims of the disaster were exposed to secondary damage without guaranteeing the rights of the victim and had to suffer severe trauma. The Victim Rights Manual, published by the 4.16 Foundation, defines the concept of disaster victims and presents their rights. The book also informs the victims, their families, those involved in rescue or support, and those who witnessed the disaster all have rights as victims. Furthermore, this book says that society should remember the disaster.
We tried to make ‘Victim Rights Manual’ in pocketbook size and make it into a book with shrewd use at the scene of the disaster. We also wanted to break away from the heavy feeling of the words “disaster” and “victim” and improve the blunt impression of the general “manual” through lettering designs with bright tones and unexpectedness.
