The bizarre word “Bbalgangee” that passed through an era has become a symbol of decades of national violence. “Bbalgangee”, which was outspoken in wielding undue power to maintain state power during the authoritarian era, still serves as a symbol of suppressing Korean society beyond the Cold War era. We look back at how the word, which would have been effective in the Cold War era, is being consumed by us now, and back to the testimony of survivors of national violence and the unfamiliar pictures of daily life.
