The indigenous peoples of North America, known to us as Indians, have more than 570 tribes in the continental United States, with cultures that vary by region. The special exhibition “Cultures and Histories of Indigenous People in North America” at the National Museum of Korea presents for the first time in Korea a total of 151 exhibits, including commonly known Indian symbols, artefacts and paintings spanning the past and present of 43 tribes. It also shows the multilayered cultures of North America’s indigenous people through a sensitive approach to how the pain of their history has shaped their culture.

Everyday Practice strived to symbolically represent the exhibition’s theme by borrowing a sculpture of a somewhat unfamiliar shape as its main image, rather than a commonly recognised object representing an Indian, and by utilising constellations to symbolise the Native American belief in nature.
